VHS vs VHS-C: What Is the Difference?

VHS-C tapes are smaller camcorder tapes that often get mixed into family boxes with full-size VHS.

VHS is the full-size home video tape

VHS tapes are the larger rectangular tapes most families used in VCRs. They often hold movies, TV recordings, and home videos transferred from camcorders.

VHS-C is the compact camcorder version

VHS-C tapes are much smaller and were used in compact camcorders. They were often played in a VCR using an adapter.

If you no longer have the adapter, that is okay. The tape format can still be identified and quoted.
